Window display design for seasonal and campaign windows

A window is the one part of the shop that works for people who haven't decided to come in yet. It has a couple of seconds to stop someone walking past, at night as well as by day, through glass that reflects the street behind them.

Designed from the pavement

We start where the customer stands. How far back is the pavement? How deep is the window, and how high is the sill? Which way does it face, and how much does the glass reflect at noon? A display that looks right on a drawing can disappear behind reflections or read as clutter from across the road.

So the design is built around a few strong decisions: one clear focal point, a scale that reads from a distance, lighting that works after dark, and enough detail to reward someone who stops and looks closer.

Seen in your window before it's built

From a survey and photographs of the actual window, we show you the display as a realistic render in position, taken from the drawings the unit will be built to. You judge it in its setting, at the right scale and in the right light, and changes are made on screen before any materials are cut.

Because the same team designs and makes it, what you approve is what goes in. Nothing is reinterpreted by someone who wasn't in the room.

Made to go in overnight

Most windows are installed out of hours so the shop can trade as normal. The display is built in sections sized to pass through the store's doors and fit the space behind the glass, with lighting and wiring built in and tested before it leaves us.

Installation is planned to the hour, and the window is left clean and lit, ready for the morning.

Seasonal windows, Christmas above all, are briefed many months before the reveal because the design, making and installation all have to land before the date. If your reveal is fixed, bring us in early and we'll plan backwards from it.

Materials and finish

Windows are seen close up by some people and from across the road by others, so the finish has to hold up at both distances. Painted and lacquered timber, metal, acrylic, fabric and printed graphics are combined to suit the idea, and every surface is finished to be looked at under strong light, where a rough edge or a brush mark shows immediately.

Windows also get hot. Lighting, sun and a sealed space behind glass can warp cheap materials and fade printed colour within weeks, so materials are chosen for the conditions in your window and the length of time the display has to stay in. If a display is meant to come back next year, it is designed to be dismantled, stored and refreshed.

A small chain of stores

Across several stores, windows are rarely the same size. We survey each one and design a family of versions, so every window carries the same idea at the right proportions for its own glass. A size schedule lists which version goes where, and each set is packed and labelled for its store.

Questions

About window display design

Can a window display be installed without closing the shop?

Yes. Most windows are installed out of hours, overnight or before opening. The display arrives in sections sized for the store's doors, with the lighting already built in, so the window is finished and lit before trading starts.

How do you design one window for several stores with different window sizes?

We survey each window and design a family of versions that carry the same idea at the right proportions for each one. A size schedule shows which version goes to which store, and each set is packed and labelled accordingly.

Can lighting be built into a window display?

Yes, and it usually should be. Lighting built into the display is positioned exactly where the design needs it and wired and tested before it leaves us, so the window works after dark as well as by day.

Send us a photo of the counter or the window.

With the number of stores and the reset date, that is enough to start. A render follows the first conversation.
